Walking through the streets of the historical center, it often happens to come across traits of the ancient city walls, or Cyclopean walls, as they are popularly known in Cori.
According to a mediaeval legend, in fact, those walls of enormous rocks could not have been the work of humans, and certainly they were the deeds of Cyclops, and some people in ancient times declared to have even seen them.
The walls include an external defensive wall, and an internal ring favouring urban gardens, and necessary to build on the steep terrain of the hill.
They were built in different moments, which are distinguished by the sharpness of the wall masonry.
The external defensive wall, without towers, was built between the sixth and fifth centuries. BC, at the time of the Volscian invasion.
Among the points where you can see the Cyclopean Walls best, we can list via Don Minzoni, just above S. Olive Church, via Pelasga, via della Repubblica and piazza Pozzo Dorico.
